| Wanted to have a Family Home Evening "Turkey" Dinner-I saw someone make a turkey out of 3 paper sacks and fill it with popcorn. (They made it to go at a kids table, with paper to color on etc. . . inspired here: http://www.marthastewart.com/286383/paper-bag-turkey We also ended up adding Bugles (chips) around it because they look like little cornucopias. Found the turkey idea here: http://www.meetthedubiens.com/2011/10/fun-food-friday-tommy-turkey.html Instead of turkey sandwiches we decided on grilled burgers, (they weren't really turkey, but beef. . . . but you can use whatever you want) I loved the idea of using apples for the feathers, and for years I've been wanting to make these corn on the cob cookies found here: http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/corny-cookies-685173/ I couldn't find green fruit leather, so I improvised and used a starburst instead-It took some work to get it to not fall apart, so I only made one sample, and left it up to the kids if they wanted to stretch out a few starbursts for the husk-they opted out, but the really enjoyed making these wild corns. We also didn't have a corn cookie cutter so I cut out a piece of cardboard and used that. For FHE we watched a video on gratitude on lds.org and played roll a turkey. On thanksgiving day we went to The James' for a yummy dinner and watched the guys play some football. So Thankful for all we have . . .especially each other!!! |
