We ate breakfast outside in the backyard patio and looked up at Haleakala. "What should we do today?" I asked. I think we all had the
same idea, at the
same time. We stopped by the gas station & bought some chiclets gum for the ride up (helps pop your ears and candy and gum are one of those things that I want my kids to associate with our fun family outings we do.) We got some warm clothes on, hopped in the car and we were off. We couldnt have picked a more perfect day-absolutely gorgeous and blue skies. We hiked up a short trail, saw silversword and a wolf spider, bought some souveniers (which I usually never do) like compasses, thermometer guages and a all in 1 compass, led light, magnifying glass etc. . .the kids loved them. There was even a morse code sheet that they studied and figured out how to say a few things usin ".'s and "-'s" We stopped at an overlook and took some fun sky pix (featured in an earlier post) and on our way back down the mountain we ate lunch at Kula Lodge-pretty perfect day if you ask me-only thing missin was papa.

My babes at the highest point in Maui- looking out at the cindercones and hikers, even got to see some horseback riders. Only $185 a person- maybe next time . . . or not.☺
Always liked this "dollhouse" looking house in Kula on the way to Haleakala-wish the owners would make it a bed and breakfast spot-it's so victorian looking and has a beautiful view from its balcony deck.
