The kids woke up, and said "hey mom, aren't you going to make an April Fools breakfast?" I said "well, no I am going to make and April Fools dinner later though." There little faces were hopin for something in the morning so I looked in my pantry and this is what came out-Eggs, Sausage, and Hashbrowns. Eggs = cream cheese mixed with powdered sugar, a pear halve cut into a circle and then colored yellow with food coloring gel-(love the way it turned out) Twix bars = sausage and blueberry rice cakes = hashbrowns. I only let them eat a bite of "sausage", as much as I would've loved to send them off to school with a plate full of sugar. They would have to wait til dinner. . .or was it dessert?
I found this fun idea online in the Family Fun Magazine. Noodles = frosting squeezed out of a piping bag with a circular tip. Sauce = Strawberry preserves. Meatballs = chocolate granola bites. (the recipe asked for whopper balls instead that you mark up with a knife, but the bites worked perfect-less work too) To get the height and bulk in the middle, you slice a piece of pound cake, or (any cake really that you like). Lay the cake down first, then squeeze out layers of pasta, sauce and meatballs and voila! p.s. my friend Julie guessed the pasta was mayonnaise! How gross does that sound for dessert? Ha Ha!!
Now onto dessert-this is actually meatballs and mashed potatoes-love the pretty spring colors for the frosting. The kids were mostly intrigued by this.
Always wanted to do this one too. Make jello ahead of time in glasses, refrigerate for at least 4 hours. When they try to "drink it", it doesn't quite come out like juice would, but they still "drink it" anyways. We had some family and friends over-so great to see our sweet friend Jen that we have known since highschool. Can't wait to see what we come up with for next year's April Fools day.
